Pathways Connect

Pathways Connect is held to partner secondary schools with employers through workplace visits.  Employers are able to raise the profile of their industry, showcase the skills they require and tap into the pipeline of future employees. This introduces students to the various opportunities available, helps them see the relevance of what they learn at school and create a career pathway.

Ways that Employers benefit from participating:

  • Raise the profile of your industry
  • An opportunity to share your story with students and showcase career pathways in your business
  • Help educators and students learn your skill requirements
  • Connect with the pipeline of future employees
  • Save time and money with future staffing

What’s the main purpose?

Workplace visits bridge the gap between theoretical education and the real-life environment for young people. They enable students to better identify their prospective career pathways in an organisation and understand the educational requirements and internal progression to the role they desire.

2021 Student Feedback

86% of students said “these trips helped them decide on career pathways and the steps they needed to take”

78% of students said “these trips helped them decide on subject choices for the future”

What is involved?

  • Year 11 students from Taupo-nui-a-Tia College and Tauhara College will visit your workplace on a predetermined date (normally held in June)
  • While at your organisation, we suggest they tour your business so you can highlight the skills required and the career pathways in your sector.
  • You will determine how many students you can accommodate and how long they spend at your organisation.
  • Hands-on activities, where possible, so they can experience some of what you do
